Ketamine recall

I have no idea if the ketamine used in Singapore is from one of these companies, but I wouldn't be surprised if ketamine from these suppliers are used in Singapore too . It may be a good idea to check with your vet the next time you schedule your cat for any kind of surgery.

Eating Animals

I just finished this very interesting book - Eating Animals. If you're interested in finding out where meat comes from, this book gives an interesting look at the meat industry.

Crows

Not only does it seem that crows are able to 'learn' to use tools more efficiently, it appears that they also know how to choose the right tool for the job. It's interesting that such smart animals have such a bad reputation.

Polish 'speaking' dog

Thanks to Chinky for this funny article. What's also nice is that the staff of the shelter went a step further to try and figure out why the dog was not responding. It also reminds me of a friend of mine who is German but insists on speaking to her cats in English because she adopted them in the US :)

Dog and Cat People

Scout watching River, originally uploaded by dawnkua.

I've had this discussion with people before - are dog and cat people different in terms of personality? A new study seems to suggest they may be.

How accurate do you think this is in terms of your personality?

Cats and dogs

This was an interesting article on whether people prefer cats or dogs. I've always had the suspicion that more cat people like dogs than vice versa, and if you believe the results of this survey, that would seem to be the case.

Cats and rats

Thanks to yskat for sending this. One of the misconceptions about cats is that they need to hunt and kill rats whereas from what I've observed, the presence of cats is enough to be a deterrent. Of course, there are some areas where there are cats and rats in the same vicinity. Desmond Morris mentioned in his seminal book, Catwatching that the rats need to be below a certain size for cats to be able to hunt - or I suspect, even intimidate them.

Eliminate the cats - and rats are likely going to follow.
