More sick cats?

This is definitely bad news. If you've read the article in the Straits Times today, one of the security guards was quoted as saying the cats have never been a problem. I did try and contact an ex-caregiver there but I haven't heard back from her.

Definitely a poisoning case. It's atrocious, the extent some people will go to take their frustrations out on others.

It's so odd... The cats seem to be fine except they are unconscious. But one died.

Hope the autospy gives us some questions.

And, at least if it's really poisoning, it's something within our control and not some cat virus spreading rampantly around. Lately I had 2 kittens under my care dying within a few hours of showing symptoms of being sick. And that was after a litter of kittens some cat brought here, very recently, suddenly died all in a day. I've not seen their mother since, too.

I posted in some forum and someone told me it could be parvovirus. I was so freaked out, I washed the backyard with Dettol and sprayed bleach and Dettol disinfectant several times and also emailed CWS in case the virus was going around the neighborhood. Thankfully my two adult cats are fine, but I haven't had time to walk around to see if the other usual community cats are. :\

Sorry about the parvo in your estate Pigcat. You might want to get a necropsy done on the kittens so you know exactly what you're dealing with. Did the adult cats come into contact with the kittens?

I hope we get some answers too - and if it is a virus, it'd be a weird one, since the cats seemed to all be unconscious.

Pigcat, Dettol is poisonous to cats. Cannot remember the active ingredient but cleaning solutions which turn white in contact with water was poisonous to cats.

Oh gosh. What I did was scrub with diluted Dettol, then rinse with plenty of water, then when the water dried up, I sprayed the area with diluted bleach... and Dettol disinfectant spray...

I don't know, the idea of a necropsy didn't really cross my mind. :\ The week was pretty traumatizing - when I finally realized what was going on with the kittens, the last one was already breathing its last. I was having exams, and not to mention my savings ... I just wanted to get over the whole thing. :\

Don't think the adult cats came into contact with those kittens - they didn't like the kittens that much cos they'd invaded their territory. I kept them away from the backyard to the best I could and monitored them very closely. It was really worrying not to find any of them gone from the compounds of the house... Now they've gone back to the backyard already and are spending some but not all of their time there. I guess they like it there cos that's where they've been ever since they were born. I'm still keeping a close eye and putting the food in front porch so they won't spend too much time in the backyard.

Do you think I should take them for titer tests? Does anybody know how much the test will cost?

If they didn't really come into contact with the kittens, and/or the environment they were in, that is a good thing. Are your older cats better? If any doubt, of course, do go see your vet.
