Keeping birds out

This is interesting - someone I had spoken with had talked of a consultancy to help with community cat issues in the same way. If people will pay to stop the birds from defecating, one wonders if a similar professional run company that handles attendant issues in relation to cats might work? Of course, since the birds CAN'T be killed (or aren't as easily caught to be killed), this may be the reason why the companies are willing to pay to prevent them from defecating on the premises.

I was pleasantly surprised to read the article without finding a single "culling" word in it.
I agree with you that because they are birds and not cats. We don't hear of car owners complaining about bird poo!

It is good to see people actually making use of other alternatives besides killing to handle animal nuisance situations.

On the other hand, good old TTK posted on ST forum:

"Dawn besides offering TNRM program, did not or offered cat repellent for free nor have I met Dawn & Michelle as claimed in her blog in http://catwelfare.blogspot.com=Club Rad - irrational cat complainants claiming the meeting with me and my famuly. Dawn has resorted to the untrue report to attack me on my refusal to accept TNRM or belive in it. Automatically I became Dawn’s enemy and that only she is correct."

Huh?

Uh, on second thought feel free to remove that post. I know TTK browses these websites and I don't want to start something on here.

Singapore Community cat - I was too.

Anonymous, I did not see the post, and I am assuming that is a direct quote? I did indeed offer a Scarecrow to Mr Tan. He would not consider using it. In fact, he went on television and when Diana Ser asked on "Get Real" if he would use the Scarecrow as offered by CWS, I remember him saying to the effect of the fact that it was not his responsibility to have to do so.

Nor did I ever mention meeting him or his family. It would have been impossible to do so as he refused to meet with me to discuss what could be done. I'd be interested if he could point out where this post is on my blog.

Mr Tan is not my enemy. I certainly don't agree with what he does, and am very sorry he doesn't try an alternative when there are effective alternatives that I think would mean cats aren't killed AND would solve his problems. I think besides the cats not having to be killed, Mr Tan would also benefit from having his issues solved.

In fact, Tony Tan Tuan Khoon made himself the enemy and he stubbornly persists that only he is correct!
He is a source of amusement on

The thread was "Feeding stray cats is as bad as littering" which is now closed. Anyway, I think he already made a fool of himself through his own attempts to justify his actions.

So agree with you Dawn, things aren't always what they seem. Just because the cats are visible and perhaps easier to target than birds, they get the blame by convenience.

Also, how anyone can take TTK and his coz seriously at all is beyond me. How dare he refute you and in essence call you a liar?

Calsifer - yes I think sometimes it's just that cats are visible. When the little bird at my feeder was killed last week, it certainly didn't give me any satisfaction to think that at least it had been killed by a native songbird than a cat. But it IS nature - and that's what happens in nature.

Anonymous and Calsifer - if it helps him to vent and some cats don't die as a result, I'm happy if he channels some of that negativity towards me.

I saw that hardwarezone thread. Very pathetic and immature. (if it's really him. If it's someone else trolling, it's still just as pathetic.) However, the cat supporters shouldn't do things like curse him or post his picture. It really gives other neutral observers a negative image. More fodder for the press to stir things up you know?

They did? I agree with you - the attack shouldn't get personal, and I know it must be hard because of all the cats that are being affected. Still it's always better to attack the arguments and not the person. Some of those photos I gather must be in the public domain already though if they are the same ones taken for the press?

Yeah, it's just that some guy is spamming TTK's photo and home address over and over again. Not very helpful IMO. They say things like "hope he die early/kena bang by car etc etc. I know people are mad but it's useless and counterproductive to sink to his level.

As you said, I can understand that people are upset, but I agree with you that this isn't the solution. If it really gets someone upset, I think they should just walk away and not let him spoil their day.
