Cat repellent

Cat repellent, originally uploaded by dawnkua.

I bought this Cat Repellent from Daiso at Plaza Singapura the other day - the only question is, what does it actually do? It doesn't say - or rather the information is all in Japanese, so I have no idea how to use it.

What i can understand in English is not anti-cat. Yes, there are areas where cats shd not go/not welcome - but you don't need to kill cats to achieve that.
This product cld be used in places to discourage cats' presence.

it says, within a radious of 2m (bottom right), it repels stray cats by scent. effective for 60 days and works even under rain!

just put at the spot and it works.

(literal translation from the text)

Hi Anonymous - yes I think this is meant to be a humane solution. Thanks kuro.shiro.neko for the translation!

I went to Daiso to get this. Really to stop my cats from going into the grass patch in the garden and going potty there. They didn't have the exact item but something similar.

Let's just say that the smell of the product repelled me more than it did my cats. hahahha!

Back to the drawing board on how to stop my cats from going to places I don't want them to go.

FYI. I have also tried lemon grass/rosemary essential oils and also orange peels. All supposedly natural cat repellents from my internet research. Didn't work, but at least they smelled alot nicer than the commercial repellents.

Autumnpiglet - can you pave that area with stones/pebbles by any chance?

Part of the garden is actually laid with slabs. And there are pebbles there too. They just ignore it and step on it.

And I figured out how my big cat got out too. I have just moved and the walls in the front yard of the new place is shorter than my previous house. She jumped onto my car and from there onto the wall before ending up in the neighbor's. Now I park my car outside.

Do your cats bury their defecation at all?

They do bury their poop but it still smells. Now we just spray them with water each time they get close to the grass patch. So they sort of know that they are not allowed there. So much so that when they see us approaching the garden, they'll run out from the grass patch and lie down quietly on the concrete as if nothing happened.

Seems like this is more effective than any repellent.

Sorry, I'm a little confused - how do they dig if there are pebbles there? Do they displace the pebbles?

The pebbles are at the edges. They go right into the parts where there are no pebbles. Basically behind the flower pots and start doing their business. Or practicing to be kungfu masters by balancing on the flower pots and challenging the leaves/flowers/each other to a fight.

Fun to watch, but not very good for the plants. hhahahah.

Any chance you can evenly put pebbles all over? It probably won't deter them unless the pebbles are in the areas they scratch.

Not enough pebbles to spread around. And it's really not worth it for me to buy more pebbles with this being a rental for about 1 year.

The boys are learning now that the area is not for them. We squirt them each time they get near the garden. So they are slowly learning. Seems much more effective than any repellent.

Ah I see - you could also borrow a Scarecrow if you want to keep them off a certain patch.

Hi,

are this product effective to get rid of cats? I really need to stop my cats from going into the living room and do they 'spraying' everywhere :'(

For indoor cats consider growing grass in a pot to lure the cat away from your houseplants. You can grow your own cat grass using standard oat or wheat grass seed. These seeds germinate fast and easily in good light if you keep the soil moist.

hoping these tips will help along with repellent sprays

Hi, does anybody know of a good way from keeping cats out of your garden. Maybe any repellent? We have tried endless things. I have 2 rather large dogs roaming freely, but they risk life and death to use my garden as a toilet! It's only a matter of time before my Rhodesian Ridgeback catches one. Any info greatly appreciated.
